First off, how did your parents come up with your name and how the heck do you pronounce it?
My parents named me after the character Circe from Homer's Odyssey. In the story, Circe worked at a loom (a device used to weave cloth) which I find a bit ironic given my career path! My mom changed up the spelling a bit and just like that, Cyrcee was born :)
I get asked how to pronounce my name almost everyday - you pronounce it, "sear-say".
Where are you from?
I'm originally from a very small town in Quebec called Rimouski. It's located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. I moved to British Columbia when I was 4 and then again to Maui, Hawaii when I was 12.
Hawaii is home to me. My dad and sister still live there, and I try to visit them as often as I can. Maui was such a great place to grow up, and it molded me into who I am today.
Where do you call home now?
I currently live in Santa Monica, California. I've been here for over ten years now, and I just love it. It's that perfect mix of beach and city. I can walk out my front door and be at the beach or an amazing restaurant within 5 minutes. I couldn't ask for much more!
Did you always want to be a swimwear designer?
Absolutely. I’ve always been into fashion and design - especially swimwear. I started modeling swimwear at age 16 in Hawaii, and as much as I loved modeling, I was always fascinated by the craftsmanship that went into each garment. I knew that one day I wanted to start a line of swimwear. I pretty much lived in a bikini, so how cool would it be to have my name, my ideas and my passion attached to the brand? After trying several jobs I wasn't passionate about, I finally stepped up to the plate and started living my dream.
What inspires you?
Tanlines :) Ha! just kidding - lots of stuff inspires me. It depends on the day and the mood I'm in. The ocean, the clouds, the sunset, a beautiful picture in a magazine. It can be as simple as a flower in bloom.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
Where do I start. LOL! Let's see, I love to cook, work out, spend time outside with my dog, and going to the beach. Surfing has always been a big part of my life but I'm a total wimp when it comes to cold water so I mostly surf back home in Hawaii. The photo below is a shot of me when I was competing back in the day!
I love movies with my fiancee and girls nights watching bad tv and drinking wine.
Traveling is high on my list because I get to experience so many new things. Traveling brings a new perspective to my life and has helped creatively quite a bit!
Tell us about what cooking and food means to you?
Cooking is one of my happy places. It's one of those things that I really enjoy doing. It's not a chore for me to cook for myself or my friends and family. I love walking down to the farmer's market and seeing what is fresh and in-season. I rarely use a recipe, and even when I do I never follow it completely - it's always sort of my creation. I love to eat, but I try to eat food that makes me feel alive and beautiful. I love that I can make healthy food that tastes great and I'm looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned over the years with you.
Tell us about your fitness regime?
I like to mix it up a quite a bit! I'm one of those girls that get bored if I do the same thing day in and day out. I'm also the kind of girl that has to work hard to stay in shape. I do a lot of different classes like spin and yoga. I also really love to get outside and hike or road cycle.
Even though I'm not a licensed trainer, I've learned a lot of useful information over the years, and I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp on things now and am dying to share it with you.
Who is your role model?
My dad. He is truly an inspiration and guiding force in my life. He is the strongest, most loving man I’ve ever known. He has always supported and pushed me and my siblings - not to only follow our dreams but tackle them head on. He started his jewelry business over 25 years ago making earrings and necklaces in our living room and selling them at local markets. Now he has a beautiful store in Maui and celebrity clientele. He had a dream, and he made it happen - all while raising three kids!
